Giuseppe Enrie Photographs the Shroud
In May 1931, Italian photographer Giuseppe Enrie was granted access to photograph the Shroud during a public exposition. Using improved photographic techniques and careful lighting, Enrie produced images of exceptional clarity.
Lasting Impact
The Enrie photographs became a standard reference set for researchers. For decades, they were the most widely used images for detailed visual study, comparisons, and reproduction in scholarly literature.
