Radiocarbon Raw-Data Reanalysis
In 2019, Casabianca and colleagues published a reanalysis of the raw data from the 1988 radiocarbon dating study. Their statistical evaluation reported inconsistencies among measurements that could indicate non-homogeneity within the sampled area.
Implications
The paper did not redate the Shroud itself but argued that the 1988 dataset deserved renewed scrutiny, especially regarding sample representativeness and statistical treatment. It remains a key empirical reference in the continuing debate over the radiocarbon results.
